Interview/Bike Check: Matt Cordova
If the word Steezy was in a dictionary the picture next too the entry should probably be Matt Cordova. When Matt rides he so easily drops a ton of style into everything. One of those riders who makes every pedal stylish and smooth. Matt recently got added to the roster on the Volume Flow team. So we decided to catch up with him about his life right now and his new bike setup...
Matt Cordova with a 3 tuck at Dew Tour Finals, Las Vegas, 2011Matt grew up in Longmont, Colorado and started racing and riding BMX about 8 years ago. Having an older brother who also loves and kills it on a bike (Joey Cordova) definitely helped Matt progress. Earlier this year Matt moved up to Corvallis, Oregon. About the big move he said, " It's been super awesome. The crew of guys I ride with is super positive and fun to ride with. So I definitely think moving up here has been a positive impact in my riding. The trails and parks are super rad also so its sweet. Also can't complain having a rad girlfriend around me all the time that helps motivate me." You probably have seen some the edits (like the one below) that Matt has been dropping with Nathan Sykes. Just tearing up the Northwest scene. When asked if he prefered dirt, street or park Matt said that "Nothing beats the feeling of getting sideways on a nice dirt jump!" Matt's whips are unreal. And have to be seen in person to understand just how rad they are. He unleashed a ton of them on the crowds at the Dew Tour this year. 2011 was Matt's first year on the tour. He definitely was impressive enough to earn a Rookie of the Year nomination and a invitation to the finals. But Matt is extremely casual about contests and stays motivated by remembering "that it's a bike and should be fun."
That famous whip from Matt Cordova. Shot at the Dew Tour stop in Salt Lake City 2011Matt is now planning his first year as part of the Volume Flow team. His buddy Matt Lee from Volume introduced Brain Castillo to Matt and his riding. Which helped get Matt going with Volume. No specific trips plans with Volume are set yet. But I am sure we will get some great edits coming our way soon. Including his full length welcome to the team edit. Which Matt has been working on as the winter weather allows. You will definitely be able to see it here as soon as it comes out.
