Problem one.
Adam Hauck is a douche bag.
Problem two.
Singlespeed fullsuspension bike.
Problem three.
You have to run it as stiff as it could possibly be. did you see when he bounced on it that it had less than an inch of travel?
Problem four.
It's aluminum, so street, park, and dirt riding abuse is just going to "kill" the bike in a very short time anyway.
Solution.
Buy a hardtail and save yourself a lot of time, money, and grief.
On the plus side, the marketing strategy is pretty cool! Gotta admit this was a cool video.
Problem one, you never met Adam Hauck, and I can tell that because he's a cool guy in real.
Problem two, singlespeed + full = a sick slopestyle bike, and this one seems more rideable/flickable because of less suspension and a better geo
Problem tree, that's what makes the bike more allround
Problem four, the frame which lasted longest under me is made out of aluminium. Material is only one factor of the dozens of factors which make a frame strong. A well made alu frame can last ver long.
Problem five, people who only comment when they hate something
Yes, I have met him. Several times in fact. He's a dick. He acts like he's better than everyone else. His nose is very high in the air. That's why he's a douche bag. Here you think the person you look up to as a rider would be a nicer guy, sadly that's not the case. He's a local here as to where you are not. Like I said, if you want a bike that stiff, just run a rigid. It will be lighter, and stronger than this piece of garbage! Black Market is a shitty company all around. They couldn't "bro" themselves out any more than they do now anyway. The whole mobster thing is just really dumb. Anyway, they don't make anything of their own. It's all made in Taiwan, so if you want some cool looking bro'd out Taiwanese crap, then Black Market is the bike for you!
I personally like Blackmarket. The Mob is handmade in USA, and the Riot is the Taiwanese version of the Mob. I talked to Carter Holland last summer and he said one of the reasons for making the Riot was to reach Europe and other parts of the world. Shipping a frame from the USA is really expensive because of the American Customs and stuff, you pay around 900 euro (1200 USD) for a Mob frame here in Europe, which is ridiculously expensive. So they made a cheaper version in Taiwan because it's a lot cheaper to ship from there, and other countries can have Blackmarkets for a good price. The Mob is probably the best dirt/trails frame out there. I also really like the Killswitch. Why? You can say it's pointless to have back suspension for street/park/dirt riding, and I agree on that (I ride rigid myself). But the frame seems great for slopestyle riding without having too much suspension which makes the bike less flickable and sucks up the lips of the dirts. Also I think it's a nice allround frame. Plus I really respect them for trying out new stuff, I haven't ridding on the Killswitch yet, so I can't say anything about it, but the fact that they're trying new things and make improvements is importent for the whole biking industry. If the companies wouldn't try new stuff and just stick with the old (type of) products we (as freestyle mountainbikers) would be riding 20kg/45pounds XC bikes with wide tires and no suspension, like they did more than 20 years ago
Because of hype and motivation people of all ages are having a great time riding Black Market Bikes. Carter and Black Market is still around because people believe in him, the brand and how much fun it is to ride the bikes. There would be no demand if that were not true. Carter has his cards delt and every person who buys from him is receiving a good relationship no matter where it's made. You don't survive in this business without doing the best with what you got. Everyone that still orders from BM knows that whole story of Taiwan manufacturing. These customers just want to have fun so if you want to call anyone out why not call out every kid, teenager and adult for wanting to ride the bike they like the most.
@Frank: so you're saying the whole development of the Mob, Riot, Killswitch, Contraband, Tech9 and all the other stuff, was all done by some Taiwanese guy who works in a factory and has never ridden a bike like this? Think again. Blkmrkt did all the work, like making and improving the geo, testing it, improving it again. It takes years for a Blkmrkt frame to come out because they want it to be perfect. It's not just a regular Taiwanese frame they bought and put their stickers on (like what happened years ago, I remember several companies having the same exact frame). And for the Made in Taiwan: Most frames are made in Taiwan. Anyways, this is an endless discussion and it's not really worth arguing any more about. Peace
Wow, that was pretty lame. Even for a gay joke. Obviously I would never write something like that.
Anyway, I deal with Black Market personally. I deal with the shipping, stock of ALL their products. I know where they come from, who makes, them, and just about everything else. I know how much they sell and don't sell.
I have no idea who Frank is, and no one named Frank is ever at the Atomlab warehouse, but there is a lot of truth to what he says. However all this is besides the point. I'm just wondering why the site moderators are keeping these posts up. No offense intended, but this place needs to be policed a little better. 1/3rd of these comments should be deleted.
problem 6: people talking out of their asses.
I'm not even going to debate whether BM is made in the USA or not (as if thats even relevant; check out george frenchs write up on the odyssey site) cause you'll not listen to me anyway and I have just as little evidence that their stuff is made in america as you've got proof of the opposite.
but I'm going to say the mob/riot DOES have very dialled geometry, which isnt just my opinion either as most people who've ridden either mine or our buddy Leo's mob agree with this. And how many cracked BM's have you seen? Not exactly many, especially compared to NS or Specialized. I know several people riding 05 and 06 mobs that are still going strong.. from what i've seen and noticed when buying my mob, BM are good people backing up their products when needed and their warranty policy with the breaking badabang v1 bars was very good.
so basically when they make dialled stuff that doesnt break and have good customer support, how important is it whether carter apparently doesnt have an office, the sprocket design looks like a swastika or you dont like their "so-cal" image?
Solution. Start my very own company and do it better.
